Perhaps a dying breed in America-- the iron horse that tamed the west is now facing the fate of being put out to pasture. Long Passenger Rail is a hard business to be in, and the government is getting tired of subsidizing it.
This was taken in Dallas on a week-long cross-country tour on Amtrak. It's hard to comprehend the mass and force it takes to make these wheels turn.

I love this photo! Personally, I think that the Superliner I bogies are the most photogenic ones on Amtrak rolling stock--but this is an exceptionally beautiful shot, thanks for sharing it.
